The Orangery Tearoom & Patisserie
The Palace Boutique Hotel's latest culinary introduction has really taken Bahrain by storm! Everyone seems to want a seat at The Orangery Tearoom and Patisserie, the island's latest venue for anything cake or tea related. The interior is done in classy floral print with pastel walls and a colonial flair, while the huge English-style garden and conservatory adds some greenery.
The food selection is extravagant to say the least! An ever-changing menu based on seasonal availability, breakfast, lunch and dinner are all well covered, offering a combination of quirky takes on British classics and elegant twists on Middle Eastern dishes. The patisserie display is always stocked with a freshly made selection of sweet and savoury European treats, while the bakery offers delicious artisan breads. But it's the afternoon tea that stole our heart; freshly baked scones, clotted cream, home-made jams, macaroons, tiny sandwiches and one of the most extensive tea selections in Bahrain.
We love this spot! The quirky atmosphere and Amsterdam inspired interior design, complete with bicycles, tulips and floral print, transports us straight to our favourite European city. Sharing a garden with its sister restaurant, La Vinoteca Barcelona, there's also the opportunity to sit outside and enjoy the fantastic weather. The menu is quite special, featuring a combination of Dutch and British dishes all done to a very high standard. Cafe Amsterdam recently introduced an outstanding tea service that lets you pick and choose whatever you feel like chowing down on.
Figs & Olives
Located on the 16th floor at the swanky Domain Hotel, Figs & Olives has a Mediterranean flavour combining Italian and Lebanese cuisine. The menu is pretty varied, offering some great comfort food in the form of sandwiches, pastas, risottos, mezze, antipasti, soup, salads and pastries. Afternoon tea is taken seriously at this establishment, with a great selection of teas, coffees and light bites.
The Ritz Gourmet Lounge
Now this is one decadent place! The chic ambiance is a throwback to Paris' Belle Epoque, or Beautiful Era, where everything was glamorous. The interior is reminiscent of authentic 19th century France and has been designed to give a 'Salon de The' vibe, which it does very well. Whether you choose to lounge in the rich velvet upholstery of the Napolean chairs or a comfy sofa, you really are spoiled for choice at this place. The menu is pretty mouth watering, offering a combination of signature dishes such as Peach Melba, Belle Helene and Strawberries Romanoff, along with home-made breads, croissants, pates, tartines, richly decorated desserts, chocolates, ice cream, fine olive oils and caviar. The tea selection is a tea enthusiast's dream, featuring imported leaf from Sri Lanka, China and South America.
Bay View Lounge, Four Seasons
The very well-regarded Bay View Lounge at the Four Seasons Bahrain Bay serves delicious high tea with a view! The crowd is a classy bunch, so make sure to dress the part.
