Our Top Picks: Bahrain's Steakhouse Edition

From leather-bound eateries designed by world-famous chefs to old-school chophouses, Bahrain has no shortage of great steakhouses. These places are our top choices for their perfection of the deceptively complex art of a perfectly cooked steak; from ripping-hot broilers to mesquite grills, these restaurants do it right.

Whether you like yours well-done or rare, we're sure you'll find something on this list that's right for you. Don't forget to book ahead with eat to confirm your spot; these joints are some of the busiest on the island!

**Upstairs Downstairs** Tastefully decorated in a classic theme of natural creams and golds, Upstairs Downstairs gives off a definitively elegant vibe with its low lighting ambiance. The Jazz theme is not just for the decor, and a steady stream of local and international musicians compliment the weekly pianist and saxophonist, making this a fantastic spot to tickle that music itch while salivating over their great menu!

The food offering is quite eclectic with a variety of tasty options from curries, French cuisine and other international selections, but it's the grilled meats that stand out the most for us! Slam bang in the centre of the 338 area, this place has been around long before the area become the place to be, and has a long list of old timers and regulars that have been dining here since the early 90s. It's regularly fully booked on Fridays and Saturdays, so make a quick reservation with eat to guarantee your table!

**Links** Tucked away at the Royal Golf Club in Riffa, Links is situated in what may be the greenest part of Bahrain! It's all rolling hills of lush, green grass complimented by a landscape of lakes and little clusters of exotic trees. The interior is a pleasant combination of deep red and orange hues, which adds a great contrast to the outside view.

One of their signature dishes is the steak-stone concept, where you get to sizzle your own meat on an iron hot slab of granite. Whether it's a 14oz T-bone or succulent 8oz sirloin steak, you really can't go wrong with links to unleash your inner caveman. The menu is pretty wide ranging and definitely has something for everyone, so you don't need to worry about your vegetarian dining friends not being able to find something yummy. Oh and before we forget, if the weather is good then you really can't go wrong with a little beverage on the terrace to end the evening!

**The Meat Co.** This joint really is a carnivore's dream. We're sure it wasn't done on purpose, but this place is our go-to man cave! Its three floors are tastefully decorated in smokey glass, hard woods and dark rock, and boast a roof-top terrace with a fully equipped bar and open kitchen views for that extra entertainment factor.

The whole menu is packed full of tasty meat cuts flown in from all over the world, including South Africa, Australia and the USA. Once you've 'oohed' and 'aahed' to your heart's content, choose whatever cut you fancy (we're always tempted by their aged meat selection; tender, melt-in-your-mouth and packing a ton of flavour), and then simply add a few extras to your plate, pick a sauce and cooking style. The mostly South African staff are very friendly and helpful, and have a wealth of knowledge where everything meat related is concerned.
