Our Top Picks: Serious about Seafood

If you love to gorge on some juicy grilled prawns, a perfectly marinated fillet of nobu-style black cod, or a deliciously spiced bit of hamour, then this post is for you! We cast our net wide to see what Bahrain's fine-dining scene had to offer to tantalize our need for sublime seafood, and it didn't disappoint. Whether it's a mollusc, crustacean or regular fish, if it tastes good we're going to tell you where you can find it. Read on for our best catches of the day!



Baharat
Baharat, located at Le Meridien Bahrain City Center, has quickly risen to the top of the island's most extravagant seafood offerings with their gastronomic Claws Seafood Night; this buffet really is the full show and them some! The selection is overwhelming with fresh clams, oysters, prawns, salmon, tuna, crabs, an abundance of local fish and a large selection of pre-prepared mains such as Chilli Lobster and Asian Hamour all making an appearance. Either pile up your plate with the mains and salads (Seafood Salad with Konbu, Maguro No Tataki and the Poached Sea Bream are our personal favourites) or choose your fish of choice and ask the culinary squad to spice and cook it however you please. Don't forget to leave some space for their excellent dessert and cheese selections too! Claws Seafood Night is at Baharat restaurant on Wednesdays from 7pm – 11pm.

La Mer
This award-winning seafood restaurant located at the Sofitel Bahrain Zallaq Thalassa Sea & Spa serves dinner out on the jetty, with perfect views of the Arabian Gulf where much of the fresh fish and seafood is caught. It doesn't get fresher than this! Select your fish of choice from the display and watch it cooked before your eyes any way your tastebuds fancy. La Mer clinched Time Out Bahrain's best Seafood Restaurant Award and it's easy to see why. Besides a fantastic menu, the views are simply stunning, with the ocean panorama making for a serene atmosphere.

Royal Thai
This eatery is situated in a giant pagoda at the opulent Gulf Hotel, surrounded by a full tropical jungle and some very picturesque rock pools; you almost want to keep lingering outside to enjoy the greenery! Once inside and seated, you'll notice that the menu is serious about seafood. A variety of lobster, crab, snow fish, hamour and other types of fish all feature heavily, all of which can be cooked in a variety of styles and prepared with a big range of spices. Th chefs are extremely knowledgable and can recommend some delicious authentic spice mixes as well as modern ones upon request.
